2006 BMW 3 series would include nearly 10 different models. The new models 330i and 325i are the new 3 series sedans where as the coupes and convertibles are the same cars as in 2005. 325i and 330i have the new 3.0 V6 engine which is different than the coupe’s and convertible’s engines.

BMW 325i Sedan
The 325i sedan costs around $30,995. This 2006 3 series sedan has a 3.0 liter V6 producing 225 hp which is 40 hp more than the 2005 model. The new 325i is now equipped with automatic headlamp and climate control and climate control center console, wipers with rain sensors, washers for headlamps, powered moon roof, FM/CD/AM stereo with 12 speakers, walnut burr trim, Leatherette vinyl upholstery. You can also have a poplar trim which is lighter with aluminum without any extra charges.
BMW 330i Sedan
The 2006 330i costs $36,995. This sedan has the same 3.0 liter V6 engine but with better tuning gives more power. It produces 255 hp which is 30 hp more than the 2005 330i. The standard features in 325i are all present with extra ones such as; powered eight way memory seats, on reverse gear the right mirror tilts down automatically, adaptive xenon headlamps that move towards the corners, Logic 7 stereo system with 13 speakers and two woofers. The audio system is also a digital surround sound.
325Ci Coupe and Convertible
The 2006 coupe 325i costs $30,100 and the convertible costs $37300. they aboth have six cylinder 2.5 liter 184 hp engines. The interior equipment is nearly the same as in the new 2006 325i sedan. Some extra features for the coupe and convertibles are also added along with a powered moon roof.
330Ci Coupe and Convertible
The 2006 330i coupe costs $35,600 and the convertible costs $42,900. they have a 3.0 225 hp engine which is different than the V6 introduced in the 2006 325i and 330i sedans. The standard interior features are like the 325i and upgrades available are comparable with ones for 330i sedans.
M3 Coupes and Convertibles
2006 M3 coupe costs $46,500 whereas the convertible costs $54,900. These cars are hottest of the entire 2006 3 series. They have a 3.2 333hp engine providing acceleration like that of a Porsche 911 and also a comparable handling, cornering and breaking capability.
BMW 3 series Upgrade Packages
With an extra cost of $1275 an all new automatic 6 speed transmission can replace the standard transmission. Three packages are also available.
Premium Upgrade Package
The package costs $2900 for 325i and costs $2200 for 330i. These include Dakota Leather Furnishing, Bluetooth phone interface, and right side auto tilt mirror in 325i, side power foldable mirrors, and rear view mirror with digital compass, safety telemetric package and other convenience services
Sport Upgrade Package
This package costs $1600 adding a sporty suspension calibration, sports 10 way adjustable seats and powered ones in 330i, 17 inch wheels and V rated tiers for the 325i and 18 inch wheels and W rated tiers for 330i. Manual SMG transmission upgrade will be available in fall 2006.
Cold Weather Upgrade Package
Electric heated seats, headlights with intense washers, rear foldable seat and ski sack.
Other Upgrades
For $1250 you can get the Active Steering capability and for $2200 the Active radar controlled cruise capability. Satellite radio costs $75. Manual rear window side shades and power rear windows come for $575. Overall there are 624 options available to the 3 series sedans of 2006.
Pricing Stats of 2006 3 Series
The new 2006 330i and 325i have a small increase in the total cost from the last year models. if only common choices are taken like metallic color, leather and automatic transmission the 325i with latest and more gadgets is only $150 more and 330i is in fact $100 less than 2005 models.
BMW 3 Series Safety Features
BMW 3 series has excellent safety features including dual front airbags for front impact, front side impact air bags and cabin full curtain head protection airbags. The rear air bags are not offered now in the 2006 3 series. Latest generation ABS or antilock breaking system and DSC or dynamic stability control with anti skid technology is a standard feature on 3 series cars. The new ABS also dries the brake discs in wet road conditions.
BMW 3 Series Final Word
3 series is more about sports drive experience and these cars have impressive handling on all speeds and a well balanced ride. The sports experience doesn’t come with any unrest to the passengers seated. If price is a problem go for 325i as it provides excellent features. 330i has some latest upgrades like Active steering and Cruise but without them 325i is still an excellent sedan.
