Driving 2006 Infiniti M

The Infiniti M gives a fun ride without giving the impression of driving a big car.
One reason for the car to feel smaller than it really is while driving is that aluminum body panels are used for the hood, doors, and trunk.
This reduces the weight substantially and by lowering center of gravity the new M feels like a small fast sporty car. The rack is electrically controlled and the power steering adds more to the joys of the ride.

Infiniti M35

M35 has a V6 engine which is much lighter and produces quite a lot of power to give a decent acceleration. Its automatic 5 speed transmission shifts between gears quickly and the shifts are almost negligible. A manual mode for more drive control is also provided. The manual transmission’s shift lever has short throw which is similar to that used in the sports cars.

Infiniti M45

M45 has a V8 engine that produces 335 hp. Though the fuel economy drops down a bit, the impressive V8 gives thrilling acceleration to M45. The bad thing is that the price goes up by almost $7,000.

Infiniti Sports Models

Sports models incorporate a Rear Active Steering. The actuator which turns rear wheels is electrically controlled and powered. It adjusts rear toe angle in two directions. When going into a curve it moves the wheels to adjust the angle in opposite phase and when coming out of the corner it adjusts the angle in the same phase. By this the car can turn more quickly and it prevents the car from sliding when the car is coming out of the corner. The actuator works at medium or high speed cornering.

The sport models, though a little more expensive than the base models, are more stable, have better handling and give an impression of light weight sport sedan when you do high speed lane switching.

Infiniti M35X

M35X is identical to the M35 model except that it is all wheel drive. The 4 wheel drive system that it uses is same as found on the G35 and FX35. Its all wheel drive gives good handling on wet and slippery roads.

Infiniti Rear View System

From a driver’s point of view the Rear View monitor is an excellent system to be added in the 2006 M. There is a camera in the rear bumper. The image from this camera is shown on the navigation system LCD. Objects or children not viewable at the back of the car can easily be seen by this great safety feature.

Course Display

Infiniti also displays a line on LCD screen which indicates the course the car is moving in as the driver turns the steering wheel.

Working with Optional Features

The Lane Departure Warning system is also one of the Infiniti’s excellent safety features. It uses a camera that detects lane markings and sounds a buzzer when the car crosses a lane. This system is also intelligent in the sense that it detects the steering rate during the lane change and doesn’t sound the warning when the driver is changing a lane for overtaking. It operates when the speed is over 45 mph and the warning goes out when the lane shift is sudden. This system is also deactivated when the turn signal for turning or lane change is used by the driver. Well, it’s a good idea by Infiniti especially when someone is driving at night or on empty roads.
