Instead of an ignition key in the steering column a key fob design is implemented. Whole of the fob is inserted into the dash board mounted slot to start the car. To stop it all you need is to push it again. This is also a safety feature that can prevent a leg injury due to the hanging key chain incase of a crash.
The 2006 Passat has almost 3 inches of extra length and width plus the engine is crossway mounted that has added to the cabin space. There is an addition of 2.4 inches in the rear seat leg space than the previous model. The 2005 model also got criticism on the lack of storage bins and other facilities inside the cabin.
The 2006 Passat’s has a very sensible and easily viewable gauge layout and control placements on the dash board. The dashboard has two layers. The upper layer has air outlets, and the cowl has a darker contrast. The lower layer has a lighter color and hosts the button for the electronic parking brakes and the head lights rotary controls. The right side of steering wheel has the slot for start and stop.
The seats in the 2006 Passat are very comfortable and have a commanding seating position. The new seats have definitely improved thigh support. The seats are powered and are 10 way adjustable. Steering wheel is designed to support all body types and can be adjusted accordingly. A six foot driver can fit in quite comfortable and due to the extra cabin space a six foot rear passenger behind this driver also gets enough leg room for a comfortable journey.
